Transport Manager

West Cork Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting a Transport Manager on behalf of a leading supplier of liquid fuel. This is a permanent role is based in Drimoleague Co. Cork. Candidates are required to live in West Cork as this is an onsite role.

The Transport Manager will be accountable for helping manage and optimise the transport function of the fleet. The ideal candidate will have a tactical mindset, powerful communication skills, and robust leadership skills.

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Requirements for the Role.

● Help manage, direct, and monitor the transport service and the overall performance of the transport division to increase efficiency and maximise service, performance, and value
● Day-to-day tasks such as route planning, resource allocation, and driver supervision
● Maintain and improve mechanisms for the transport operation, including surveying and measuring satisfaction with the transport service and disseminating feedback to the appropriate internal entities
● Tachograph management and compliance
● Utilise agreed systems to manage the transport operation; servicing, analysis, and documentation
● Help manage driver recruitment, training, action plans, and targets
● Appraise and manage performance, development, coaching, and general support of all team members to ensure targets are met
● Monitor and report on transportation costs
● Help delegate authority and responsibility to the team with supervision, accountability, and review
● Report maintenance and repair needs for vehicles and equipment
● Schedule daily and weekly routes
● Planning, organising, and managing subordinate staff members to ensure work is completed and consistent with the company’s standards
● Fleet procurement and scheduling of maintenance
● Ensures Health and Safety, Environmental and Operator's Licence compliance
● Ensuring that the transport team understands its duties and its role within the organisation
● Arranging repairs and routine maintenance of vehicles
● Analysing information about delivery times and expenses to minimize future costs
● Working closely with the sales team to maximise route and load optimization
● Help break into new expansion markets and provide commercial support in negotiating contracts

● Knows their way around spreadsheets (strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel – this is essential)
● Ability to lead, nurture, motivate, and inspire folks (a leader)
● Experience of working in a low-margin service-driven entity (this is a big plus)

Education & Experience:
It’s a plus if you have a degree-qualified in a Business and/or Logistics/Transportation undergraduate Discipline (the University of Life also counts!)
